CapCut is known for being the backbone for much of the online content. It’s a go-to video editor for creators on some of the biggest social media platforms, including TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram.
Previously, you could only use the app on your mobile device to create and edit content. But creators who prefer to edit on their computers will be happy to hear that CapCut is finally available for Windows and macOS.
We’ll show you how to download CapCut on your Windows or Mac computer and give you an overview of the features you can expect.
You can now use CapCut on your computer
Originally an app only available for Android and iOS, CapCut has become hugely popular as one of the best video editing options packed with free features. The demand for a computer version has grown exponentially. And the lack of this option has prompted many users to turn to PC emulators and alternative methods that allow you to mirror your mobile device to a computer.
Starting in August 2022, you can give your phone a break and download the official CapCut editor app on your Windows or Mac computer, with no workarounds required. Like the mobile app, it’s free to use, has a ton of features, and the installation process is simple.
How to install CapCut on your computer
To get started, you need to go to the CapCut site or the Mac App Store to download the app. After downloading, run the executable file.
Then check the box to agree to the terms of service and click Install now. Once the installation is complete, click Start now. After opening CapCut, if an update is available, you will see a prompt to update.
CapCut will then test your computer to see if it is running smoothly. After that, you’re ready to start editing!
You can optionally log in to your TikTok, Facebook or Google account associated with CapCut. But you don’t need to login to use the program.
CapCut Features on Windows and macOS
CapCut for Windows and macOS comes with all the features available in the mobile app. This includes:
- Basic video editing tools, such as cropping and changing the playback speed.
- Advanced video editing tools such as keyframing, chroma keying and optical flow.
- Automated features such as text-to-speech and automatic background removal.
- Text and stickers.
- Filters and effects.
- Basic audio tools and sound effects.
The computer version of CapCut comes with many keyboard shortcuts that can speed up your editing workflow. However, these are not customizable.
Unfortunately, CapCut doesn’t sync across multiple devices, even if you’re signed in to the same account. However, you can export a project and send the file to other devices.
Using CapCut on your computer has one great advantage: ease of use. Swapping taps and swipes for mouse clicks and keystrokes is a breath of fresh air. Not to mention that managing projects with folders and subfolders makes it a breeze to keep track of where you have your files stored on your computer; you don’t need to download a file manager app on your phone.
You no longer need an emulator to use CapCut on your computer
Content creators who rely on CapCut have reason to celebrate. Making the app available on computers is a game-changer now that you don’t need an emulator. And you won’t miss anything, all the features you liked in the mobile app are available on the computer version.
If you haven’t used the app yet, now is the best time to familiarize yourself with CapCut; take advantage of all its bells and whistles to make cool video edits.
