3D scanners capture a 3D object or scene and then the scanned information is converted into a digital model. Most 3D scanning applications use a smartphone or tablet camera to capture 3D data. Trnio allows you to scan and capture objects in high resolution, making it easy to create accurate 3D models that can be used for everything from product design to architecture.

After signing in with your Apple ID, click the + icon to start the process. There are three main options: AR recording, Photos from Camera Rolland Photos from files. If you choose one of the last two options, you can import the images and convert them into 3D models in the app. If you choose the AR Capture option, use your phone’s camera to start 3D scanning.

When you’re done, you’ll see an option to add more details to scans. Then select Process, and your images are processed. To elect edit to edit your 3D model, such as changing the colors.

After you create an account and launch the app, you can choose what you do whether you are a builder, designer, 3D artist, photographer or just having fun. After you select a category, you’ll be prompted to allow the app to use your location.

To start 3D scanning, hold your camera steady, tap the capture button, then move it around to scan the object. When you are done, click on the Done option to see the images captured by the app. You can view and delete anything that is not right. Then select upload to upload your images to their server to convert them into 3D models. When uploading, make sure to keep your app open until the upload process is complete.

Once your images have been processed in the cloud, you will see an option to edit the generated 3D model. For example, you can crop, measure and even extend. A Video setting also helps you see how your 3D model looks from different angles. You can export, share, or create an album in the cloud to save it when you’re done.

4. Heges

Heges uses your device’s built-in camera and sensors to capture data points and create a detailed 3D model. When starting the app you have to select: Go to Settings and let it use the iPhone’s camera.

To use Heges, your iPhone must have a TrueDepth camera or LiDAR to function properly. All iPhones with Face ID have a TrueDepth 3D camera.

Heges allows you to take pictures of the intended design from different angles. When you’re done, you can preview the 3D scans created. Heges is perfect for making models of small objects such as coins, jewelry or sculptures. The app is also great for scanning larger projects like furniture or cars.

Once you’re done with 3D scanning, you can export your designs in PLY (color format) or even STL format for 3D printing. You can also view and share your 3D models in AR mode via the built-in Wi-Fi server or iTunes.

5. EM3D

EM3D allows you to scan objects in 3D with your iPhone’s TrueDepth camera. Once you have downloaded and installed the app, you can see a notification for the new one Mirror saver feature; this allows you to view the screen on another device, making it easier to scan objects for your 3D. If you don’t have another device to view your screen, you can also download a 3D printable mirror adapter from Thingiverse to change the direction of the camera.

When everything is set, select Okay to access the app to start 3D scanning. Like Heges, your iPhone with EM3D must have a TrueDepth camera. You can take 360-degree selfies, capture moments in 3D, make full scans that are colored and easily export them with EM3D.
