How to fix a missing Wi-Fi option in Windows 11

Your Windows 11 computer may not display a Wi-Fi connection option for various reasons. Corrupt Wi-Fi drivers, hardware issues and even problems with the Windows operating system can be the possible causes of this problem.

In addition, you may also notice that the Wi-Fi connection drops regularly. If so, here are a few troubleshooting steps to help you fix the Wi-Fi issue in Windows 11.

1. Run the Internet Connection Troubleshooter

Windows 11 provides built-in troubleshooters to fix common problems with computer peripherals and network devices. You can run the Internet Connection Troubleshooter to scan the system for common problems and fix them automatically.

To run the Internet Connection Troubleshooter:

  1. Press Win + I to open Settings.
  2. Open the System tab in the left pane.
  3. In the right pane, scroll down and click Resolving problems.
  4. below Optionsclick on Other troubleshooters.
  5. Click on the Run button for Internet connections. Windows launches the troubleshooter and lists the issues that Windows can troubleshoot.
  6. click on Troubleshoot my connection to the internet. The troubleshooter will scan the system for problems and recommend possible solutions. Apply the fixes and check for any improvements.

If the problems persist, run the network adapter troubleshooter. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Press Win + I to open Settings.
  2. In the System tab, go to Troubleshooting > Other troubleshooters.
  3. Scroll down and click on the Run button for Network adapter.
  4. In the troubleshooter window, select All network adapters and click Next one.

Select the appropriate option and follow the on-screen instructions. If available, apply the recommended solutions to restore your Wi-Fi connection.

2. Enable the Wi-Fi adapter in Network Connections

Windows 11 will not display the Wi-Fi option if the Wi-Fi adapter is disabled. You can manually enable or disable the network devices in the Control Panel.

To enable the Wi-Fi adapter:

  1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialogue.

You can use Command Prompt to reset your network devices. These commands reset TCP/IP, reset advanced firewall settings, and reset Winsock.

Run all of the commands below in order, even if you encounter errors during execution.

  1. press the Win + X key to open the WinX menu.
  2. Then click Windows terminal (administrator). Click Yes if requested by User account control.
  3. In the Windows Terminal window, type the following command in the order presented:
    netsh int ip reset
    netsh advfirewall reset
    netsh winsock reset
    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
  4. After all commands are executed, restart your computer. After the reboot, check if the Wi-Fi option is restored.

7. Check for Windows Updates

This is another solution for PCs with a fresh Windows installation. If you haven’t already, run the Windows Update tool to check for pending updates for Windows and third-party vendors. These updates may contain bug fixes and critical drivers for the network devices.
