9 good reasons why you should subscribe to Apple TV+

Apple TV+ is Apple’s streaming service that launched in November 2019. While it’s not as popular as Netflix or Disney+, it’s still worth considering signing up for Apple TV+.

Whether you want to watch exclusive movies like The Morning Show and Ted Lasso, or get carried away by the cheap price, there are plenty of reasons why you should sign up for Apple TV+.

1. You can watch original movies and TV shows

The main reason to subscribe to Apple TV+ is the great exclusive movies and TV shows it has, made by big names like Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg.

A full list of all Apple Originals can be viewed at the Apple TV+ website. Some of the great shows you can watch on Apple TV+ include:

  • bad sisters: Five siblings undergo investigation after their brother-in-law dies, in a show that perfectly blends dark humor with drama.
  • Dickinson: A strange coming-of-age comedy about poet Emily Dickinson, starring the ever-excellent Hailee Steinfeld.
  • severance pay: In this mysterious and quirky thriller, Adam Scott plays a man who has undergone a procedure to separate his work memories from everything else.
  • Ted Lasso: Jason Sudeikis plays the titular role of an American college football coach who optimistically tries to lead an English football team.

The only way to watch these shows is on Apple TV+. They are not available on other streaming services, nor can they be purchased physically.

2. You can watch exclusive licensed content

When Apple TV+ started, the only things you could watch were Apple Originals. Unlike Netflix or Hulu, which mix original content with third-party stuff, Apple was completely focused on its own productions.

However, that changed in May 2020 when Apple started acquiring a handful of old content to bulk up its catalog. So far, Apple is only acquiring third-party content that it can make available exclusively on Apple TV+. That includes the original Fraggle Rock TV series and several Peanuts animated specials, which you won’t find on other streaming services.

Although the catalog is much smaller than its competitors, Apple TV+ still offers a unique selling point by hosting exclusive licensed content.

3. It’s cheap and sometimes free

For many, Apple TV+ is completely free for three months as part of a purchase of Apple devices such as the iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Apple also often offers other methods to get Apple TV+ for free through promotions with partners such as LG and T-Mobile.

Even outside of those deals, the service is very affordable. It costs $4.99 per month after a seven-day free trial.

You can also get it as part of Apple One, which bundles several Apple services and starts at $14.95 per month with a one-month free trial.

4. There are no ads

Unlike services like Hulu, Apple TV+ has no ad-supported subscriptions. Besides, why pay for a service and then see ads?

No matter where you watch Apple TV+, you won’t see any ads, and Apple claims it always does.

5. You can share your account

Thanks to Apple’s Family Sharing feature, you can share your access to Apple TV+ with up to five other people.

Of course, Apple sells this feature with the idea that you can invite family members from the same household, but you can also use it with friends.

This means that six people can pay for one Apple TV+ account and share the benefits. You won’t be limited either, as the service also allows for six simultaneous streams.

6. It is available on many devices

A streaming service is pretty useless if you can’t watch it on your favorite device. Thankfully, Apple TV+ continues to roll out to a growing number of devices.

Of course you can watch on all your Apple products, including Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, Mac and via AirPlay.

You can also watch on your PC, via Roku, Fire TV, some Samsung and LG smart TVs and game consoles such as the PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

Sadly, there’s no Android mobile app, but that’s to be expected from a streaming service from the makers of the iPhone.

7. It streams high quality video and audio

Provided you have the equipment that supports it, Apple TV+ streams in 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Unlike other services like Netflix, where you have to pay for the privilege of high-quality streams, Apple TV+ offers this as part of its single subscription tier.

8. You can download and watch offline

Everything on Apple TV+ can be downloaded for offline viewing. This means that if you go on a trip and don’t have an internet connection, you can still enjoy its content.

All you need to do is download the show or movie on your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or Mac beforehand. The only limit is the amount of space your device has.

To find your downloads, go to the Library tab and select downloaded.

9. It is available in many countries

There is a good chance that Apple TV+ will be available in your location as it is supported in over 100 countries. There are a few notable exceptions to that list, including Turkey and South Korea, but Apple plans to expand globally.

Unlike other streaming services that are subject to local licensing restrictions, the majority of content on Apple TV+ is original and exclusive. That means wherever you are in the world, you can enjoy everything Apple TV+ has to offer.

Which other streaming services are better?

While Apple TV+ is a great streaming service, it’s not for everyone. If you’re a quick viewer, you’ll soon find that there’s nothing left to look at. In that case, it might be worth signing up to Apple TV+ for a few months and then moving elsewhere.

And there are plenty of other streaming services you could choose from. Whether it’s free services like Crackle and The Roku Channel, or paid services like HBO Max and Disney+, there’s bound to be a platform that’s right for you.
